Shalismar Nivar

Hi my name is Shalismar, I am a senior at CCNY. I am majoring in psychology. I chose psychology because I became very interested in the mind and the difference in peoples behavior when in groups and as an individual. This interest mainly came after having my daughter. This is a very important topic, especially when you combine it with racism and discrimination because many people are unaware of the biases and the experiences people go through of opposite color or race.

I am a sophomore attending the City College of New York. Currently, I am pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Discussing topics like racism and sexism is important to me because today, we have to be aware of these ongoing issues and fight for change. With the presidential election of 2020, the #BlackLivesMatter movement and the #Metoo movement, the world is opening its eyes to the discrimination against African Americans and women in America.

I go to the City College of New York and have a major in psychology. This will be my last semester at City College. I consider it important to discuss racism and discrimination to fully understand what it looks like and how it can happen. I wanted to discuss how certain behaviors are effected by racism and discrimination to see how they are affected by racism and discrimination.
